Student National Medical Association
(SNMA)
Student National Medical Association
Mission: SNMA was founded in 1964 by students at Howard University College of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, SNMA is the oldest and largest student organization representing the needs and interests of underrepresented minority medical students. Today, SNMA boasts a membership of over 6,000 medical student, pre-medical student, and practicing professional members who are involved in pre-medical recruitment, community outreach, and public health education. SNMA implements numerous national protocols, including Youth Science Enrichment Program (YSEP), Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP), and Minority Association of Pre-medical Students (MAPS), designed to encourage students at all levels of formal education to pursue careers in medicine. Through these pipeline programs, as well as through our community service initiatives, we strive to create and sustain a cadre of physicians reflective of the diverse patient population it serves.
